STORM RENDERS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HOMELESS IN T SEPAHIJALA!

Hundreds of houses were destroyed and several trees uprooted as storm and heavy rains lashed Sepahijala district of Tripura bordering Bangladesh in the wee hours on Saturday.

Tin roofs of several houses were blown away while many other houses were badly damaged as uprooted trees fell on them.

Power connection and water supply were snapped following the storm.A large number of people affected by the storm and heavy rains had to stay under the open sky at night as they were rendered homeless.
Tripura social welfare and education minister Santana Chakma along with the district magistrate of Sepahijala district, CK Jamatia, visited the affected areas to assess the damage caused by the storm.

According to official sources, the state government has announced to provide ex-gratia amount of Rs 5,000 initially besides Rs 95,000 from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for construction of homes to those who have lost their houses.

In April last, a massive storm wreaked havoc across North Tripura which left a trail of destruction in Churaibari and its surrounding villages.

Trees got uprooted, electric cables got torn and tin roofs went flying.

Several houses got damaged in the storm and the effect was felt in Churaibari, Fulbari, Laxminagar, Kherengchuri, Khadim Para and few other places.
