On the occasion of completion of one year of the BJP-IPFT alliance government of Tripura ousting the 25-year-old Communist rule, the state chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb presented an overview of the achievements of his government on Saturday.
Addressing
the media during a meet the press programme organised by the Agartala
Press Club, the chief minister said that during the last one year his
government taken several pro-people steps and among many, the biggest
success was to make Tripura a drugs free state.
The chief minister
informed that in a mission mode, the drugs fee Tripura drive was
launched and on date around 71,000 kilogram of ganja was seized beside
other drugs and contraband including cough syrup, brown sugar, heroin,
yaba tablets etc.
He said that the Tripura government is working
in association with the Mizoram government to curb the drug menace
especially Yaba tablets which is smuggled from Myanmar through Mizoram.
The
chief minister said during the last one year, crime against women in
Tripura has reduced by around nine per cent as conviction has increased
and police are active. However, he would like to see that crime against
women should go down to zero.
Deb said that the during his government’s tenure, 2.15 women got free gas connectivity under the Prime Minister’s Ujjwala Yojana and 1.36 lakh households were provided electricity under Saubhagya Yojana.
He
said that other than the budget allocation the State Government in
addition managed to get Rs 18,000 crores from the Centre as special
assistance.
Meanwhile, with streamlining of the tax collection
system has increased the tax collection by 25 per cent without any
additional tax on the completion of one year of the coalition government
on Saturday.
The Chief Minister said salaries of State Government employees have been increased under the seventh central pay commission.
On
MGNREGA, he said after his government came to power, the Centre had
suspended fund as the previous government did not maintain the terms and
conditions set for the same but later the Centre released fund after
the Centre was satisfied with the steps taken against the corrupt
officials who were involved.
He said his government promised to
give employment in every household and ‘we do not believe that only
government job is employment but our definition of income is different
and we have created employments in the State in various sectors through
different schemes’.
Deb said the Centre by amending the Article 20
has arranged for direct funding of the ADC and the allocation has also
been increased to strengthen the scheduled tribe section of people
financially, educationally and culturally.
