The Tripura Congress today organized
a successful and well-attended 'Raj Bhawan Abhiyaan' through a rally near
Circuit House , preceded by a big procession. As announced earlier by the
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) , hundreds of Congress workers and supporters
from different parts of the state, specially Sonamura subdivision converged on
the front side of Congress Bhawan . After the workers had arrived a long
procession comprising hundreds of party workers led by PCC president Birajit
Sinha and Congress’s all India farmers organization Nanabhau Patole meandered
its way through streets of Agartala to the space in front of the statue of
Mahatma Gandhi near Circuit House and the meeting started .
Addressing the gathering Nanabhau Patole and Birajit Sinha
castigated the ruling BJP in state and centre and blamed all the ills facing
the country on the party. The PCC here had prepared a charter of demands
including waiving of all bank loans drawn by farmers and this was proclaimed in
the meeting amidst loud applause . Both Patole and Birajit asserted that
Congress would come to power through the upcoming loksabha elections and then
all kinds of loans drawn by farmers would be waived off .
After the meeting a delegation of five Congress leaders headed by Patole and Birajit met in
deputation with the governor Kaptan Singh Solanki and handed over a memorandum
containing the pro-farmer demands . They urged the governor to exercise his
constitutional authority to make the
state government accept the demands and send a copy of it to the union
government. What the governor told them is not known but the Congress leaders
including Birajit and Patole seemed happy over the deputation.
