In a
pathetic incident a young would-be mother died only because the
Gynaecologist who was supposed to conduct delivery of her infant had
gone on two days casual leave without informing the patient or her
relatives and anybody in the hospital. Sources in the BMS hospital in
Kamalpur said that Anjana Deb (25), wife of Chranjit Deb of Baligaon
hospital, had been under the treatment of Gynaecologist Dr Sukanta
Bhuiyan ever since she had conceived a child. The doctor got Anjana
admitted to BMS hospital on last February 21, Thursday and the delivery
was scheduled to happen on Friday morning .
But
on that crucial morning Dr Sukanta Bhuiyan was missing as he had gone
on two days casual leave without handing over charge to any other
doctor. Having no other alternative the nurses in the hospital performed
the delivery duty but the baby died shortly after coming out . This
triggered tension as a large number of people had rushed to BMS hospital
but the guilty and callous doctor Sukanta Bhuyan was not found .
Earlier he had been responsible for the death of one woman and two other
babies. The subdivisional medical officer (SDMO) Dr Anjan Das admitted
the incident and expressed his regret , saying he would bring the matter
to the knowledge of higher authority.
