While a group of tribal leaders of Tripura led by scion of
the erstwhile royal family Pradyot Kishore Debbarman is in Delhi to
explore the possibilities of moving the Supreme Court against the
Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) 2016, opposition CPI (M) launched an
agitation across the state seeking withdrawal of the bill, which has
already been passed in Lok Sabha.
The CPI (M) Politburo member and leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar threatened to continue the movement until the bill was scrapped. Addressing the launching rally of the agitation last evening, Sarkar said, Modi government had introduced the bill to divert the attention of common people from the failure of the central government to safeguard their basic rights.
He alleged that the bill had been planned to create religious hatred among different communities and if the bill became an Act, it would destroy the fundamental principle of the Indian Constitution. The proposed bill will had an adverse impact in Northeast, Sarkar observed.
