Tripura
police performed a wonderful
job by curbing state's two-decade old insurgency in this state that had
resulted in the loss of countless lives. This achievement has been
appreciated
across the country but the task of police does not end here. What the
state's
police force is expected to deliver is a society free of crimes and to
achieve
this there must be no compromise with anti-social elements striking at
the root
of rule of law. Making this crucial observation in the course of his
speech in
the 'Workshop cum Seminar' organized by
the state's police accountability commission today in the Hall No-1 of
government run Prajna Bhawan auditorium , the chief minister also said
that
police must try to have increasing interface with society and specially
the
elected public representatives to come to grips with reality. 'The
current
fashion is to release information to the print or electronic media, I
have no
objection to this but taking common people, specially their elected
representatives into confidence; as the first step towards this 'beat'
constables can be appointed with specific responsibilities' said Biplab
Kumar
Deb. He said that he wants not only the police to have accountability
but also
the entire administration down to the Panchayat level
The chairman of the police accountability commission Justice
(retired) Swapan Chandra Das read out a written speech in which he shed light
on the functioning and performance of the commission and also called for more
harmonious and co-operative relation with society and lay members of the public. Sri Pranay
Sahay, a senior member of the police accountability commission and former DGP,
said that if the police personnel respond promptly to register complaints and
redress grievances of people, society at large feel happy. He laid stress on
prompt registration of FIRs and complaints, giving a copy of the same to the
complainant and initiating prompt action as a means of better interface between
police and public.
Today's Workshop and Seminar was also attended
by DGP Akhil Kumar Shukla, chairperson of the state womens commission Barnali
Goswamy and police officers of various ranks from all over the state. Former
Vice Chancellor of Tripura Central University Professor Arunoday Saha and
advocate general Arun Kanti Bhowmik also
attended the successful and well-attended programme today.
