
Tripura University campus has become the first university in the
Northeast Indian region to successfuly install and complete solar power
project within the assigned period of time.A solar power plant of 500 KWP started functioning today in Tripura University campusThe project was assigned by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to Tripura University. The SECI functions under MNRE.
The
new panels have been installed at nine different buildings of Tripura
University which includes Academic Building 1,2,7,8,10,11, Old guest
house, old canteen and the examination halls.
The solar panels
have a capacity of generating 7 lakhs unit per annum of energy which
will help the university to save approximately an amount of ₹ 36 lakhs
annually.
This project will also make Tripura University a green campus by producing its own clean and green energy.
The
solar energy development project is a major initiative taken
collaborately by PM Narendra Modi and all the central universities which
will also benefit the IITs and NITs.
The VC Prof. V.L. Dharurkar
and energy expert visited three places in university where old panels
existed and these old panels will get repaired soon which will generate
an additional 1.40 units further saving an additional 10lakhs approx.
