The TTAADC have total 4447 seats in 587 village committees within its jurisdiction of which 976 seats fell vacant due the various reason like death of the member or resignation.
It is learnt that
most of these seats fell vacant due to resignation of the sitting
members after the BJP-IPFT coalition government came into power in March
last. Similar spell of resignation was seen in Gaon-Panchayat and
various urban bodies like Nagar panchyat, Municipal councils and in Agartala Municipal corporations for which by-election has already been completed.
Radha
Charan echoed his party CPI(M)’s allegation that most of the members
submitted resignation under threat from the BJP and IPFT supporters who
virtually created a atmosphere of fear in the state after the coalition
government came into power after defeating the Left Front. He said still
such threat and intimidation are going on in different areas which are
not a healthy sign in a democracy.
